  • Top 8 tablets released on MWC 2012 to challenge iPad HD

Posted on March 7th, 2012 David Brooks No comments

The long anticipated iPad HD (once rumored as iPad 3) is going to be unveiled today on Apple’s March 7th event. With the excellent hardware and software updates, like the Retina display and full HD experience, again Apple has successfully made its product, this time the next generation of iPad, attract numerous eyes around the world. However, the iPad HD is not the only tablet in the tablet market people are longing for. Though the Apple iPads are still in the leading position in tablet market share, a variety of strong challengers have quickly grown up to sway the dominant position of iPads. The Kindle Fire is one of these tablets competitors. The just past MWC 2012 had brought several outstanding tablet competitors to iPad HD. More surprisingly, besides the update in hardware, some innovational elements are added in to satisfy customers’ demands, which in certain degree further shorten the difference between smartphones and tablets. Check the following content to know the strong competitive tablets released on MWC 2012 to iPad HD:

    Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 comes with a 10.1 inch large display with 1280×800 screen resolution, really suitable for you to watch movies on Galaxy Tab tablets, featuring 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM and support of Bluetooth 3.0. A 3MP camera is adopted by this tablet, which supports to operate on HSPA+ network connectivity to reach up to 21Mbps downloading speed. The long battery life is one of the advantages of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, owning 7000mAh battery which tops among various excellent tablet options. Providing both 16GB and 32GB variants for users, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 operates with the Google Android 4.0 OS.

    Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1The large 5.3 inch screen display with 1280×800 high screen resolution and dual-core processor Samsung Galaxy Note released last year has been a big surprise. This smartphone has been a popular device for users to watch DVD movies on Galaxy Note, but on this MWC 2012, Samsung released a new tablet named Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, which makes much more sense than a 5.3-inch one if you intend on using a mobile device for note-taking or creating artwork. And contributing to that are the improvements that the S-Pen, with which the Galaxy Note 10.1 is equipped with, has undergone. The results are better input sensitivity and accuracy, which makes hand-written notes easily readable. And if that is not enough, some Adobe apps, Photoshop Touch being one of them, have been optimized for the S-Pen, which is something that artists and graphic designers are going to be happy to hear.

    Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD

Huawei MediaPad 10 FHDQuad-core processor has been the hottest topic in this MWC 2012, while Huawei dropped a big bomb to us with its awesome Ascend D quad superphone and MediaPad 10 FHD tablet. The MediaPad 10 FHD features Huawei’s own 1.5GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 10″ IPS (1920 x 1200) display, HSPA+ 21/42/84Mbps and LTE support, Dolby surround sound, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 1.3-megapixel front facing camerea, and 2GB of RAM. It is only 8.8mm thin and weighs 598g, which means it should be a burden to carry around. It will be available in the global market Q2 2012.

    Acer Iconia Tab A510

Acer Iconia Tab A510The 10.1 inch Acer Iconia Tab A510 is another quad-core processor released on MWC 2012, featuring NVIDIA Tegra3 processor. The screen resolution reaches 1280×800 pixels to deliver clear pictures. Operating on Android 4.0 OS, this tablet also features 1GB RAM and dual cameras. The new processor would save battery greatly for long operation.

    ASUS Padfone

ASUS PadfoneASUS officially introduces its annual highlight Padfone on MWC 2012, which combines tablet with phone, just like the Motorola Webtop. It features an incredible 4.3” smartphone featuring a Super AMOLED qHD display, the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.5Ghz dual core processor, Adreno 225 GPU, 1GB RAM, at least 16GB memory expansion, 8MP camera, support of 1080P HD video recording, 1520mAh battery, etc. The Station includes a 10.1 inch large screen with 1280×720 pixels resolution, Android 4.0, 6600mAh battery, etc. Together, this ASUS Padfone tablet produces excellent experience in smartphone and tablet using, like watch HD movies on ASUS Padfone. Two things would influence such kind of mobile devices. One is the user experience. The large screen display should bring more and better user experience for users. The other is price, which would directly influence target clients.

    Viewsonic ViewPad 10Pro

Vewsonic ViewPad 10ProMicrosoft released Windows 8 Customer Preview version after MWC 2012. During this congress, we were surprised to see the tablet with Windows 8 OS preview version. Viewsonic displayed various tablets in different configurations, display size, and OS. The Viewsonic ViewPad 10Pro adopts Intel Atom (Oak Trail) 1.5GHz processor, 1GB/2GB optional DDR3 Ram, 32GB built-in SSD storage, 10.1 inch IPS multi-touch screen with up to 1280×800 pixels resolution, front camera, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 and 3G connection availability.

    Sony Tablet P

Sony Tablet PSony brought people Tablet P and Tablet S during this MWC, of which Tablet P owns quite unique design, featuring dual screen displays, impressing others to be a handheld gaming machine. Sony Tablet P adopts dual screen displays in 5.5 inch (1024×480 pixels), NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 1GHz CPU, 1GB RAM and 4GB memory storage, 3080mAh battery, 5MP camera and Android 3.2.1 OS.

ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity 700 Series

    ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity

Offering both great build quality and specs, the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity 700 Series immediately became one of our favorite tablets at MWC 2012. ASUS has demonstrated an incredible attention detail as far as outer appearance goes, without forgetting the specs side of things, coming up with an incredible product that we’re definitely looking forward to. Last, but not least, the 700 Series stays true to the Transformer line-up, having a beautiful keyboard dock sold alongside it. Once again, there are more than one reason to get the dock, as it will not only provide you with a full physical QWERTY, netbook-like experience, but will also increase the battery life of your device. The sad part here is that we don’t know yet when the tablet’s coming out, but are having our fingers crossed that its release is not too far away.

  • Six tablets that come to premature end and never appear in market

Posted on January 10th, 2012 David Brooks No comments

The year just past by has witnessed a fast and strong growth in tablets industry. Various popular and powerful tablets emerged in the market to meet users’ needs, like the Amazon Kindle Fire, Motorola Droid Xyboard, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, HTC EVO View 4G, etc. all of which are the result of high tech and provides users excellent user experience. In fact, these tablets are just partial of tablets that various tablets makers put into market in the end. There are also a lot of tablets which come to a premature end and never appear in the market, which means these tablets are dead before being put into market. A ZDNet Author has made a collection about these premature ended tablets for us. The following 6 tablets all belong to this kind of tablets. Check the following original content to get to know more insight about tablet market.

    Sony Tablet P

Sony Tablet PWhen Sony announced its entry into the Android tablet game in August 2011, it showed off two devices. One was the Sony Tablet S, which made it to market a few months later. The other was the Sony Tablet P (then known as the Tablet S2), a unique folding tablet planned to be released by AT&T in time for the holidays. It didn’t.

    Dell tablet of Android version

Android version 10 inch Dell tabletTo Dell’s credit, the company was one of the first major players to challenge the Apple iPad with the Android-based Streak tablet. So when it announced its plan to deliver a 10-inch Android tablet tablet for 2011, we had every reason to believe the company. Well, it produced a 10-inch Windows 7 tablet, but an Android version never made it out the door. Maybe the cardboard mock-up company reps showed off during the announcement event (shown here) should have tipped us off.

    Lenovo tablet

Lenovo tabletLenovo first showed off its IdeaPad U1 concept at CES of 2010, and its hybrid concept turned a lot of heads. The device worked as a Windows notebook when docked, but its detachable screen acted as an Android tablet when used separately. It missed its 2010 release, but popped up again at CES 2011. Who knows? Maybe we’ll see it again at CES 2012.

    Kno tablet

Kno tabletUnlike most of the tablets on this list, the Kno tablet wasn’t geared for consumers. Its dual-screen design was made specifically to address the need for a full-size, full color replacement for large textbooks. Unfortunately, it never happened. In April 2011, the company decided to change direction and abandon hardware creation to focus specifically on software development.

    Samsung Galaxy Tab 4G

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4GDuring CES 2011, Samsung announced plans to release a 4G version of the 7-inch Galaxy Tab Android tablet for Verizon. Though Samsung went on to make many new versions to its Galaxy Tab line in 2011, a 4G version of this original Galaxy Tab never materialized.

    BlackBerry Playbook 4G for Sprint

BlackBerry Playbook 4GWhen RIM unveiled its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, the company publicly announced its intention to release a 4G version of the device for Sprint. In August, Sprint nixed the idea. For more products we never saw in 2011, check out CNET’s Top 5 vaporware from CES 2011.
